Hydrating Watermelon Slushie

Hydrating Watermelon Slushie | Well and Full | #vegan #recipe

This may be a Weekend Smoothie Update, but I’ve just got to talk to you about my new rice cooker. In short – it’s amazing. I got mine a week or two ago and I can’t even remember what it was like before I had it. No longer am I cooking rice in a pot and burning the bottom layer. No longer is my millet kind of cooked on one side and gooey on the other. Everything my rice cooker cooks is perfect – white rice, brown rice, millet, quinoa, etc. (And yes I’ve cooked all of these things within a week). Do any of you have rice cookers? Then you know what I’m talking about. For anyone who eats any sort of grain often, it would be an amazing addition to your batterie de cuisine. I got this Black and Decker rice cooker and haven’t looked back since.

Okay so now that we’ve gotten that out of the way…

Here’s what caught my eye of the webs this week:

1 // Four ways women can reduce their risk of breast cancer. My grandmother died of breast cancer, and my mother has had many close calls in the past few years. Every woman should read about this study and take these factors into consideration.

2 // The cutest raw chocolate cupcakes with nettle frosting!

3 // Things to consider before seeing a holistic nutritionist, written by a clinical nutritionist.

4 // Some interesting thoughts on wellness. And by interesting I mean skeptical and oftentimes downright negative. An excerpt: “This isn’t just about nutrition, it’s about morality, and when food becomes imbued with this kind of scandalizing language, the dinner table becomes a minefield.” But nothing like this is black and white. I agree with some of the article, and disagree with some. I’d be interested to hear what you think.

5 // This fruit and granola bowl is just beautiful.

6 // A sneak peak on an awesome recipe I’m working on – I got the tapioca pearls here.

7 // These galactic donuts are AMAZING! I actually saved the photo as the background on my phone, that’s how gorgeous they are!!

8 // Recipe throwback: I’ve been on an Asian food kick lately, so I’m digging these Shiitake Donburi bowls.

I hope you all have a wonderful week! :D

This looks like the BEST summertime treat!! Thanks for that link about reducing your risk of breast cancer – my maternal grandmother has had ovarian cancer, and breast cancer twice (and beat all of it!) so I’m always being aware of my own risk.

Hi Sarah, love the watermelon and coconut water combo, yum! My very dear friend is going through a breast cancer treatment at the moment and it’s been heartbreaking for me to witness what she’s going through. As far as I’m concerned all women ought to be on an anti-cancer diet! Thank you so much for mentioning my cupcake recipe:) x

Looks delicious! I always add a generous amount of frozen pineapple to my watermelon slushies — the fresh, zesty tang of pineapple is so refreshing combined with the sweetness of watermelon :)

Woah. Not going to lie, I discovered much to my surprise this weekend that I really like frozen margaritas (when they’re not too sweet). Enjoyed a watermelon and cucumber one. This look even more refreshing!!!

I need a rice cooker! I burn it every. single. time. Not burn it burn it, but overcook it just enough to make the pot superbly hard to clean. That one isn’t too pricey either, thanks for the rec! Those nettle cupcakes are blowing my mind :o And BUBBLE TEA!! Can’t wait! Tapioca pearls have been in and out of my vita cost cart so many times, i need to just go for it and get them so I can make it once you post! But in the meantime, this sip looks perfectly refreshing and sweet and very very summery <3

You gotta get a rice cooker, girl! I had the same problem and was tired of messing up my pans lol. And also yes to the tapioca pearls… they’re so fun to work with and eat! :D
