Gluten-Friendly Chex Mix

Gluten-Free Chex Mix | Well and Full | #glutenfree #vegetarian #recipe

This Gluten-Friendly Chex Mix is the perfect healthy snack! Made with wholesome, delicious ingredients like corn chex and pumpkin seeds!

This post was created in collaboration with Bob’s Red Mill, a brand I trust and use in my own kitchen. All opinions are my own!

I think it’s a dang crime that I don’t have more snack recipes on my blog! Before I started creating recipes for this website in 2015, I used to be more of a snacker than a regular meal-eater. When I would come home from school growing up, I would always have my after-school snack (usually pretzels) and read for about an hour. Having a snack while reading is probably my favorite pastime, second only to playing piano. Indeed, I have my snack and reading time every single day, even now!

Chex mix was also a preferred snack during my childhood. This might make me sound crazy, but I used to separate the different ingredients in the chex mix and then eat them in order of least favorite to most, saving the best for last. In fact, my chex mix love goes so far back that I remember when they had the white bagel-esque chips in the mix (now they only have the dark rye chips).

Making your own gluten-friendly chex mix at home is incredibly easy and delicious! I’ve added my favorite ingredients here for a gluten-friendly treat – corn chex, rice chex, gluten-free pretzels, and Bob’s Red Mill pumpkin seeds. The pumpkin seeds come in clutch here, adding protein and a hint of nuttiness that really rounds the whole mix out. Bob’s Red Mill has a great assortment of products on their website that would be perfect for this mix, including hemp seeds and sunflower seeds. This recipe is super customizable, so feel free to sub in your favorite snacks to make your own ideal mix!

Please note that the Worcestershire sauce contains gluten. I have non-celiac gluten sensitivity, and I’ve found that this recipe does not bother my stomach. However, if you have Celiac disease or cannot tolerate any gluten, then this recipe will not be able to work.

Other delicious snack ideas on the blog include this buffalo hummus and these kale chips!

Gluten-Friendly Chex Mix

This Gluten-Friendly Chex Mix is the perfect healthy snack! Made with wholesome, delicious ingredients like corn chex and pumpkin seeds! Please note that the Worcestershire sauce contains small amounts of gluten.
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 1 hour

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 5 Cups Corn Chex Cereal
  • 5 Cups Rice Chex Cereal
  • 5 Cups Gluten-Free Pretzels
  • 1 Cup Pumpkin Seeds

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/3 Cup Vegan Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 Cup Melted Butter or Vegan Butter
  • 1 Tbs Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1 Tsp Paprika

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 275 degrees F.
  • In a large bowl, mix together all of the dry ingredients.
  • In a small bowl, mix together the wet ingredients until everything is evenly mixed.
  • Pour the wet ingredients over the dry ingredients a few tablespoons at a time, stopping in between to mix everything. Try to distribute the wet mixture as evenly as possible.
  • On two baking sheets lined with parchment paper, divide the chex mix evenly. Try to spread out the chex mix so that it's as evenly distributed as possible.
  • Bake the chex mix in the oven for 20 minutes. After the time has elapsed, remove from the oven, stir, and rotate the trays in the oven.
  • Bake for another 20 minutes, and repeat the stirring and tray rotation.
  • Finally, bake the chex mix for 10-15 more minutes, checking to make sure nothing is browning too much.
  • When done, remove from oven and LET COOL completely! (Chex mix will continue cooking for a few minutes on the tray once they're out of the oven.)
  • Enjoy!

Notes

  • For this recipe I used Annie's vegan worcestershire sauce.
  • If you're not gluten-free, feel free to sub in other ingredients like cheddar crackers or wheat chex (just making sure to keep the volume the same!)
  • Chex Mix will keep in a sealed container (not in the refrigerator) for about 4-5 days.

Hi Susan, my apologies, I did not realize the Worcestershire sauce had gluten in it. I will change the recipe to reflect this. Thank you for bringing this to my attention!

This Worcestershire sauce is not gluten free. It contains wheat. I’ve already commented before.
