This Garden Mint Lemonade recipe made with fresh mint is the perfect refreshing spring and summer drink! Perfectly sweetened with just the right amount of lemon-y tang, it’s ideal for pool days or dinners on the patio!

I don’t know how people in the South drink things like sweet tea. Or as I think of it, sugar water with a slight hint of tea. Now I know I’m coming off strong by shading Southern sweet tea right off the bat, but it’s the perfect contrast to this Garden Mint Lemonade. I like my lemonades tart, lemon-y, and just sweetened enough. So if you’re looking for a sugar blast with a drop of lemon, then this is not the recipe for you. However, if you want something that’s refreshing without being cloyingly sweet, then this IS the recipe for you!

The key to making this lemonade is making the lemon peel and mint-infused syrup. This is a way better method than just adding raw sugar to the mix because you can be sure that all of the sugar is dissolved. That’s right, no grainy lemonades here! And because we’re dissolving the sugar AND infusing in extra lemon flavor, it leads to such a flavorful beverage that you’ll want to make again and again! Enjoy!!

Calories 144kcal

Ingredients

Lemon Mint Simple Syrup

  • 1 Cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Peel from 1 Lemon
  • 1/3 Cup Fresh Mint

The Rest of the Lemonade

  • 1 1/2 Cups Freshly-Squeezed Lemon Juice from about 6-8 lemons
  • 6 Cups Water
  • Ice
  • Lemon Slices for Garnishing optional
  • Fresh Mint for Garnishing optional

Instructions

  • Before making the recipe, wash and dry your mint and lemons well.
  • To begin, make the simple syrup. Use a vegetable peeler to peel off the rind from one lemon. Then, add the peel to a small saucepot with the 1 cup of water, 1 cup of sugar, and 1/3 cup of fresh mint.
  • Bring the mixture to a simmer, stirring frequently, and simmer until all of the sugar is melted. When done, let the syrup steep for around 10 minutes as it cools down.
  • Now, juice your lemons until you have 1 and 1/2 cups. This should be about 6-8 large lemons-worth of juice.
  • Using a fine mesh sieve, strain the lemon juice into a large pitcher. Then, strain the syrup into the pitcher as well, and mix.
  • Add in about 6 cups of water and mix the lemonade again. Taste, and adjust to your liking (i.e. add more water or lemon juice). Add ice to fill to the top.
  • Serve cold, and enjoy!

Notes

  • You can use any type of fresh mint you like for this recipe – just make sure the mint you’re using is organic and has not been sprayed with pesticides or chemicals.

Garden Mint Lemonade FAQs

How long does mint lemonade last?

The lemonade can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days. Be sure to store it without ice to prevent dilution! Also, you can freeze the lemonade in ice cube trays for a delicious addition to smoothies or cocktails! The ice cubes will last up to 6 months.

What are the ingredients in Garden Mint Lemonade?

This lemonade is made with four main ingredients – lemons, mint, water, and sugar. That’s it! I have you incorporate the lemon flavor in two ways: First, by infusing the lemon peel in the simple syrup with the mint. Second, by adding fresh lemon juice to the lemonade for the classic flavor and tang. It’s so good!
