Happy Smoothie Saturday, everyone! Today, instead of doing my usual link roundup, I wanted to talk about this amazing new platform I’ve been into called Nom.
Imagine a place that combines your favorite bloggers, your favorite Food Network shows, and your favorite reality TV shows. This place is Nom. It’s everything food related, narrated by awesome people and all done completely LIVE! I’ve done a few live casts so far (Tuesdays at 10 AM EST) and it’s a pretty surreal experience. You’re standing there, in your own home, but you’re broadcasting live to the people watching, and they get to see everything – the spills, the fumbling over words, the grabbing a gulp of water because you just ate a chipotle pepper, etc. It’s humbling, to say the least. But also super exciting because it’s so real – there’s no editing or anything, so you’re getting the raw cooking experience with the host. In this way, Nom is so much better than anything you’ll see on Food Network. Having done a live Nomcast twice now, I’ve realized how completely edited and staged those cooking shows are. They don’t show half of what goes into preparing a dish. That’s why it’s been so interesting to host my own show and watch other shows on Nom – you’re getting the real-time cooking experience, and a more realistic idea of what it’s like to make something.
Another really cool feature that’s on Nom (that I haven’t seen anywhere else) is that you can interact with the host while they’re casting. That’s right, you can type a message to them in real-time and they’ll respond to you. I remember the first time I typed a message to someone during a show, and they said “Hi, Sarah!!” seconds after I sent the message! It was SO COOL communicating with the hosts in this way. It’s like watching Chopped and having Ted Allen personally say hi to you on screen. It’s the coolest!
For more Nommy goodness, you can always get the app which is FREE (!) and is an awesome resource for anyone looking to get the latest in food from their favorite bloggers, chefs, and food personalities. You can catch Nomcasts live on the app, and even post photos and videos to your own page if you like! It’s super fast and simple, and I highly recommend it to anyone who considers themselves a foodie.
Here are some great pages I recommend on Nom:
