Does it ever seem like life takes a pause – things get quiet, less is going on – and then everything starts to happen at once again? That’s where I am right now. I’ve been crazy busy with blog stuff and freelance projects, I’m working on my Holistic Nutrition classes, I’ve been painting (and am actually working on a piece to submit to an art exhibit in New Haven!!), I’ve been getting more involved in political activism, I’m a guest singer in a band, and I’ve been developing new friendships with some really awesome people. Wheww!! It’s all been crazy but I love it.
It kind of makes me think of my mental health issues and those times I’ve felt like life didn’t have anything to offer. If I ever feel like that again, I want to remember this post and see that there are SO MANY AWESOME THINGS that life has in store. Sometimes, you just have to go out and seek it!
Today’s recipe is one that I’m super excited about, because it’s in collaboration with Rootz Nutrition – a super awesome paleo + plant-based company – and because it’s all about ENERGY!
One of the central concepts in my Holistic Nutrition school is that where there is energy, disease cannot exist. Fatigue is the root cause of all disease – systems breaking down, organic processes deteriorating, etc. And what we eat will either contribute to that energy, or detract from it. I know I personally have way different energy levels when I eat a salad vs. when I eat a bag of potato chips.
Which brings me to the Rootz Paleo Energizing Superfood powder – it contains Yerba Mate Extract, Guarana, Tongkat Ali Root, Rhodiola, Schizandra Berry, Asian Ginseng, and Ginko Biloba – all plant-based sources of energy and vitality. (I think it’s amazing that there are so many plants out there that do such wonderful things for our bodies!!)
The smoothie itself is a mix of fruits and healthy fats for an optimal energy boost. I also added ice to the mix for extra water… staying hydrated is crucial for your body’s energy levels! I hope you love this smoothie… it’s pretty darn delicious, if I do say so myself!
