This Honeydew Honey Deuce recipe is inspired by the famous US Open cocktail, but with a delicious melon spin!
When I was about 13 or 14, I somehow got roped into tennis lessons with a friend. I was never particularly athletic, so I can’t remember how the lessons came to be. Suffice to say, I was an absolute disaster at tennis. My lessons stalled after about 3-4 of them because I could not consistently even hit the ball over the net. (Disclaimer: I was a string bean of an adolescent and had very little muscle mass to speak of!) So no, I don’t really know anything about tennis. But if there’s one thing I do know, it’s a food trend!
About the Recipe
When I saw the Grey Goose Honey Deuce cocktail trending all over social media, I knew I had to make one at home. As the official cocktail of the US Open, it’s made with vodka, raspberry liqueur, and lemonade, garnished with honeydew melon balls. It was easy to make because Grey Goose has their exact recipe on their website. However, I was disappointed that it was only just alcoholic raspberry lemonade. There wasn’t any honeydew flavor at all in the actual cocktail. As a bonafide melon lover, this was unacceptable to me. So, the Honeydew Honey Deuce was born!
In this recipe, I use Midori melon liqueur instead of raspberry to create the melon flavor. Much more festive, in my opinion! And of course I kept the honeydew melon balls. They’re a great little boozy snack once they’ve been sitting in the cocktail for a minute! I’ve also given two options in the recipe to serve this cocktail martini-style (like it is pictured here) or served over ice à la the US Open. Either way, I hope you enjoy this cocktail as much as I do!
Honeydew Honey Deuce Cocktail FAQs
What is a honey deuce?
The Honey Deuce is the official cocktail of the US Open, a tennis tournament part of the Grand Slam series. The name comes from the tennis term “deuce”, meaning a tie score of 40-40. It’s a pun of the word honeydew!
What makes this honey deuce recipe different?
I made a homemade version of the honey deuce, but I was disappointed that it was basically just a hard raspberry lemonade with a honeydew garnish. With a name that was designed to be a pun on honeydew, I felt the cocktail should have more of a melon flavor! So in this recipe, I’ve subbed raspberry liqueur with melon liqueur.
What is the honey deuce US Open recipe?
The exact recipe can be found on the Grey Goose website, but a honey deuce is made with vodka, lemonade, raspberry liqueur, and honeydew melon balls.
What is the honey deuce price at the US Open?
In 2024, the official Honey Deuce cocktail cost *~$22~* at the US Open !! Listen, I love a good cocktail as much as anyone, but it’s quite a hefty price tag for one drink! All the more reason to make one at home :)
Honeydew Honey Deuce
Ingredients
- 3 oz Vodka
- 3/4 oz Melon Liqueur such as Midori
- Lemonade
- Honeydew Melon Balls
Instructions
- To start, prep by making the honeydew balls. Cut a honeydew melon in half, then scoop out the seeds with a spoon. Using a melon baller, cut out as many as you can. Freeze the remaining honeydew to use in smoothies!
- Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Add in the vodka and melon liqueur, and shake until the shaker is ice cold.
- To serve without ice (martini-style), pour mixture evenly between two glasses. Top both glasses with enough lemonade to fill, then serve with balls of honeydew.
- To serve with ice, fill two cocktail glasses to the brim with ice. Pour mixture evenly between the two glasses, then top with enough lemonade to fill, and serve with balls of honeydew.
Notes
- Because the Midori is sweetened, you won’t need simple syrup for this recipe!
- Use the highest quality (preferably homemade) lemonade that you can in this recipe. As Grey Goose says, “Premium ingredients will make for a premium cocktail.” :)
