Super Seed Milk | Well and Full | #wellness #health #nutrients #vegan #plantbased

Forget all the other plant milks you’ve tried – this creamy, nutty Super Seed Milk supersedes them all! (Sorry, I couldn’t resist!!) Made with mineral-rich and micronutrient-rich seeds, this homemade milk is the perfect way to start your day!

I joked to my brother-in-law the other day that my daily cup of coffee gives me the will to live in the morning. I absolutely LOVE the taste of coffee – that rich bitterness is one of the best tastes in the world. But I’m not going to miss out on an opportunity to get some micronutrients in my morning cup of java! This Super Seed Milk is something I make regularly, usually rotating out different nuts or seeds depending on what I have on hand.

Lately I’ve been looking into seed cycling, which is where you eat portions of certain seeds at specific times of the month depending on where you are in your menstrual cycle. Learning about the benefits of seeds really opened my eyes to how absolutely jam-packed they are with micronutrients. So I love the idea of including them in more meals! I know you’ll love this seed milk as much as I do, enjoy!

Forget all the other plant milks you've tried! This Super Seed Milk is made with mineral-rich and micronutrient-rich seeds, and tastes delicious! Yields about 4 cups, or 32 oz (approximately 1 liter).
Course Drinks
Prep Time 10 minutes
Servings 16 1/4 cup servings
Calories 30kcal

Equipment

  • Nut Milk Bags or Cheesecloth I swear by these nut milk bags from Amazon (affiliate link)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Raw Pumpkin Seeds
  • 1/8 Cup Raw Flax Seeds
  • 1/4 Cup Brazil Nuts
  • 1/3 Cup Raw Sunflower Seeds
  • 1/4 Tsp Sea Salt
  • 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup
  • 1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 5 Cups Water

Instructions

  • Add all of your nuts and seeds to a high-speed blender with the water, salt, vanilla extract, and maple syrup. Blend on high for about 2 minutes.
  • Place a strainer over a large bowl and line it with cheesecloth or a nut milk bag. Pour the seed milk into the cheesecloth or nut milk bag, doing it in batches if needed.
  • Squeeze the milk out from the seed solids into the bowl. Repeat in batches until you've gone through all the milk.
  • Compost or discard the solids, and transfer the strained milk to a large mason jar or bottle.
  • Store the seed milk in the refrigerator, where it will keep for about 7-8 days.

Notes

  • Be careful not to buy roasted, salted nuts because then your milk will be VERY salty! (Trust me, I’ve made that mistake!!)
  • These are the nut milk bags  I used – I highly recommend! (Amazon affiliate link)

Super Seed Milk FAQs

What is seed milk?

Seed milk, like other plant milks, are made by blending seeds (and sometimes nuts or grains like oats) with water, then straining out the solids until a smooth “milk” is left.

How long does seed milk last in the refrigerator?

Your homemade seed milk will last about 7-8 days in the refrigerator. You can always freeze it into ice cubes for smoothies too!

Do I need to add maple syrup?

No, you don’t need to add maple syrup to this milk, but it tastes WAY better with it than without it. Even though maple syrup is an added sugar, it’s less refined than white sugar and actually contains some nutrients. If you’re avoiding sugars all together, try adding about half the amount noted in stevia, taste, then add more as needed.

Do I need special equipment to make seed milk?

You will need either cheesecloth or nut milk bags (which I recommend). Both are super cheap on Amazon (affiliate links), and they’re reusable! And especially considering how expensive store-bought plant milks can be nowadays, this is a prudent investment that will pay for itself by one trip to the grocery store where you don’t need to buy vegan milk!

Are seed milks good for you? What are the benefits of seed milks?

Let’s start with nuts and seeds, which are both incredibly good for you. Nuts and seeds contain many micronutrients our bodies need, in addition to healthy fats and protein. In addition, seeds like flax contain Omega-3 fatty acids, which are critical for brain health.

The problem is, not all plant milks are created equal. Store-bought ones can be a mixed bag. Some contain lots of added sugars and/or artificial flavorings, which are best to keep to a minimum. Instead, by making plant milks at home, you can control the ingredients.
