Post-Workout Tart Cherry Smoothie

Post-Workout Tart Cherry Smoothie | Well and Full | #vegan #workout #smoothie

Life lesson alert: it is soooo hard to get back on track to a workout regimen when you’ve been off it for awhile. Now, before we all get discouraged, does that mean you shouldn’t try to get back on track? NO WAY! The beauty of life is that you have an infinite amount of second chances, to start and restart again. But it can be discouraging when you were once really good at something, and have since regressed. I used to be a workout fiend in college – I went twice a day (I know, I can’t believe it either) and did swimming, cardio, weightlifting, rock climbing, rowing, and stretching. Unfortunately, when I started working my corporate job I became completely exhausted by the stressful work, and stopped going to the gym as often. But now that I’m not at my job anymore, I’ve been trying to get back into the swing of things. I’ve rejoined my rock climbing gym, and have been trying to go a few times a week – not just to climb – but to do the same routine of cardio and weightlifting. Which leads me to this smoothie.

I forgot how I heard of tart cherry juice, but apparently it has some proven effects that aid in workout recovery. Tart cherry juice is loaded in antioxidants, and has anti-inflammatory properties that are perfect for when your muscles are sore after a workout. It also is a natural source of melatonin, a substance which plays a role in the regulation of circadian rhythms in the body (read: it helps you sleep better). But keep in mind that I’m not a doctor (just a nutrition nerd) and you should check with your doctor before starting any new supplement or dietary change!

But without further ado, here’s what caught my eye on the webs this week:

1 // “Angels” guarded a funeral of one of the Orlando shooting vitcims, blocking out protestors from Westboro Baptist Church. Love outshines hate.

2 // Why you don’t have to feel grateful all the time.

3 // Why eating with the seasons is the best thing for your body! Love this!

4 // I saw the recipe for this Salted Caramel Chocolate ice cream on Pinterest and it looks pretty insanely awesome.

5 // This past week was #PopsicleWeek!! There were so many amazing entries, I wish I could list them all. Wait, Billy already did that. Here’s the list here!!

6 // I’m a mediocre baker at best, so Sophie’s buckwheat bread looks pretty darn impressive to me!

7 // Seriously craving these falafel gyros.

8 // Recipe throwback – I’m thinking of making these raw fudge truffles again, they’re so chocolatey and delicious!

First and foremost, GO YOU, Sarah , for getting back into the swing of things! Because, although deciding to kick oneself back into gear more often than not requires a fair bit of inner conflict and reasoning before one is truly convinced, doing so almost always pays off.
Also, thanks for this week’s links, even if that means that I have just opened another 7, or so, tabs, which is stressing me out XD
Have a great week *insert flowers because I like “sending” people flowers*

I can so understand what you mean, when saying it’s so much harder to get back on track or into your exercise routine after having a break for a while! I’ve had a break since March, and now slowly getting back to it, but it is hard…Luckily, with juice like this we will be back on track in no time! x

Crazy how life after college is so different…I don’t ever remember having to carve out time to exercise, as there was always ample opportunity…now everything has to be planned down to the second, so it’s easy to fall off the workout wagon. Loving the idea of a sweet and tart cherry smoothie as a post workout recovery drink…looks so refreshing!

I know, it really feels like you have to plan everything down to the T in order to make time for anything. It makes me wish I was still in college ;) Thanks Julia!!

Yes, tart cherry is such a win for post-workout! In the heat of summer, when I finish my long runs in the morning, I love making an ice cold tart cherry juice with some coconut water to facilitate optimal recovery. Looks so good girl!
